The required textbook: Landscape Irrigation System Installation & Maintenance, 2nd Edition. The recorded content is built around this book, and you’ll be doing independent reading alongside the videos. Purchase it directly from the Irrigation Association: store.irrigation.org
What the CIT exam covers:
The CIT exam is three hours long and consists of 100 equally weighted, multiple-choice questions covering basic irrigation principles, basic electrical principles, and basic hydraulics. This course is designed to prepare you for those three areas.
Who this course is for:
CITs are the field technicians who install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems. If your work involves cutting and joining pipe, laying out and installing piping and water delivery components, backflow prevention, mechanical, hydraulic and electrical controls, and troubleshooting and repairing systems — this is your certification.
The Irrigation Association recommends six months or 1,000 hours of irrigation-related field experience before sitting for the exam. You can take this course at any point, but you’ll get more out of it if you’ve spent time in the field.
Why get certified:
Certification adds credibility with employers, opens up job opportunities, and demonstrates your commitment to efficient water management.
Please note before you purchase:
- The exam is separate. You register for and pay the CIT exam directly through the Irrigation Association.
- The textbook is separate and purchased through the IA store (linked above).
- This course does not guarantee a passing score. It’s structured preparation — your results depend on your study and your field experience.
