Smart irrigation controllers have been commercially available for more than 20 years. Currently they are mandated in an increasing number of municipalities across the U.S. and are used around the world. These devices have evolved to many of the current devices that offer smartphone app capability. These devices have been proven to reduce excess irrigation when installed and programmed properly.
This course will review smart irrigation controller basics and how they can reduce irrigation waste and increase irrigation efficiency. Best practices for the two types of smart controllers on the market will be discussed. Research results from the use of smart controllers and real-world implementation will be presented to help the attendee be prepared to optimally implement these devices.
