Irrigation NE! will provide networking opportunities and events to make lasting connections with local irrigation professionals.

This year’s learning opportunities are available in four different formats.

  • Live Roundtable Discussions (Instructor-Led)
  • Live Roundtable Discussions (Vendor-Led)

Anyone can take any course or participate in any roundtable discussion.  Be sure to check each course or discussion description to understand and suggested level of experience or knowledge to get the most out of the event.

Live Online Education Courses

The courses are focused on two different experience groups.  The Technician Builder Courses are for those with 0 to 2 years of irrigation experience.  The Manager / Lead Technician  courses for those with 3 or more years of irrigation experience.

The Manager/ Lead Technician Track:

  1. Assessing an Irrigation System – Determining what needs to be done to improve an irrigation system from water source to the sprinkler coverage. Controller Orientation for Homeowners – Techniques to explain a new or replacement controller to your customer to increase your value and reduce your call-backs and nuisance calls.
  2. Irrigation for Indoor Growing – The technical requirements for designing and installing irrigation on living walls and alternative indoor crops.
  3. Managing Remote Service Technicians – Methods and processes to ensure your unsupervised workforce are efficiently delivering the quality an image your company requires.
  4. Troubleshooting Sprinkler Coverage – Using science of sprinkler nozzles, pressure, placement, and condition to define how to correct or improve sprinkler coverage.
  5. Troubleshooting Water Waste – Looking for lost water from water source, piping, valves, and scheduling.
  6. Learning from Water Efficiency Programs – Understanding the principles behind the prestigious conservation programs and how to incorporate them into your company’s culture.

Technician-Builder Learning Track

This is a series of courses targeting the person new to irrigation, cross-training landscape people on the basics or irrigation, and the installation technician wanting to get into service.  This track is designed for people with 0 to 2 years of irrigation experience to follow in order.  They are suggested to help an individual or employee take courses that follow a logical learning sequence.

As always, anyone can take one or more course in any order to fit their specific needs.  Be sure to refer to each course description to understand any experience or other prerequisites that will make the learning experience more valuable.

  1. Understanding Irrigation Terminology
  2. The Essentials of Doing an Irrigation System Review
  3. Pipe Sizing to Control Pressure Losses
  4. The Hydraulics of Adding Sprinklers or Changing Nozzles
  5. Using a Multimeter – Measuring voltage and resistance
  6. Getting Started with Electrical Troubleshooting
  7. Setting the Customer Experience with Technician Etiquette

Roundtable Discussions (Instructor-Led)

These 1-hour informal discussions are designed for all attendees to share their successful or not so successful ideas, ask questions, and learn from your peers.  They will be led by highly experienced and knowledgeable instructors to keep the discussions going and on topic.  There are two sets of topics:

Field Scenario Discussions

These discussions deal with both common and uncommon situations an irrigation contractor can encounter on the job:

Customer Encounters – Discuss the proven practices to manage that initial interaction between your employee and a customer.

Expecting the Unexpected – Talk about the things done to ensure you or your technician has the resources at hand to handle problems and changes effectively and efficiently.

Irrigation Myths and Mysteries – Share the science behind the solutions to many of the commonly misunderstood and often mistakenly diagnosed technical issue with irrigation systems.

People Management Discussions

Lessons from Great People Managers – Discuss methods used by some of the greatest managers and coaches in the sports world.

Dealing with Difficult Employees – Look at the tips and techniques used to handle your common personnel situations.

Key Elements that Make Business Plans Effective – Share the ideas on how you make your business plan work to be a living tool for directing a successful business.

Effectively Training Your Employees – Cover the formats and methods that really work to train you employees.

Roundtable Discussions (Vendor-Led)

These 1-hour informal discussions are designed for all attendees to share their successful or not so successful ideas, ask questions, and learn from your peers.  They will be led by highly experienced and knowledgeable vendors to keep the discussions going and on topic.
