Instructor: Dennis McKernan Learners will develop a clear understanding of how infiltration rates affect water application rates and irrigation scheduling. How to accurately measure soil infiltration rates will be explained as well as factors that affect soil infiltration rates. This course will cover:
    • Defining and measuring the infiltration rates of a variety of soils and situations.
    • How water application rates, through irrigation scheduling, are affected by soil intake rates.
    • Factors that can increase and / or decrease a soil’s infiltration rate.
    • How to match irrigation schedules to real life soil infiltration rates.
Who should attend?  Irrigation managers and maintenance staff with experience in developing irrigation schedules.

Instructor: Ted Moriarty A successful installation or renovation project depends on determining the best and most feasible course of action to take. This requires making decisions in the field regarding three key elements – sprinkler pressure, spacing, and flow based on the manufacturer’s specifications. This leads to good distribution uniformity and therefore conserving water while keeping the plants healthy. This class will address the fundamental hydraulic principles supporting these three important elements, with an emphasis on spacing and nozzling. Part 1 of the class will focus on choosing the proper nozzles and spacing given existing site conditions that may require “out of the box” solutions. Part 2 will address difficult areas which need to be irrigated with the goal mitigating water waste, such as overspray. New techniques using different approaches for mixing and matching different irrigation equipment will be covered.

The scientific principles of connecting PVC pipe and fittings using solvent cement to make a robust and long-lasting solvent welded joint is often over simplified. The results of ignoring the science can create significant problems for the property owner and the irrigation management company. The good news is that the science of making a proper solvent weld joint is very understandable. It is also easy for irrigation installers to apply the science to create good solvent welding habits. The course will shed light on the how and why solvent cement works, the scientific requirements to have it work the best, the effects of pipe and fitting dimensions and tolerances, the specific ways to use cements and primers correctly, and the results of a properly made PVC joint.

    Instructor: Brian Vinchesi Learning Objectives:
    • Develop a better understanding of “why” professional designed systems are different than design/build irrigation systems.
    • Identify key areas that will impact the amount of time and materials required to successfully build these projects.
Who should attend?  Irrigation contractors, business owners, site managers or any irrigation installation staff that work on or bid professionally designed and managed irrigation system installations.

In the fast-moving world of technology, connected devices are growing at a rapid pace. The irrigation industry is moving slower than the current market demand and missing a huge opportunity at the same time. During this course you will learn what you need to know to conduct yourself like a professional and be tactically prepared to be successful in the world of Wi-Fi and connected devices. This includes learning to speak the language of “IoT” (internet of things) and how to conduct WLAN (wireless local area network) tests to ensure the devices you install will connect to your customer’s Wi-Fi.

Instructor:  Kurt Thompson Developing company personnel is essential to the successful growth of any company because it has become very difficult to hire fully trained people. Most of the time training your people by lecturing or just showing how to complete a task is not effective. That is because working adults do not learn as they did when they were a full-time student. This 2-hour presentation introduces an owner, manager, or supervisor to the basic concepts of how adult learners perceive and process information. It also covers some proven, practical techniques, and methods to get the information in a form and size to effectively transfer knowledge to the learner AND get it put to use in the learner’s job. Also great for salespeople to learn about presenting their ideas to their clients!
